How to clean your dentures.

Some studies indicate that using an effervescent cleaner is a superior way to clean a denture. If you use a brush to clean the denture be aware that the abrasiveness of denture cleansing pastes can cause roughness on the surface of the denture. This can allow more bacteria to adhere to your denture.
Of the immersion products available, sodium hypochlorite (bleach) may be the most effective, but only when used properly (10 minutes maximum of soaking). Studies have shown that it can kill methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), a major pathogen in the immunocompromised patient.
Another way to clean dentures is with Ultrasonic devices. These work by producing ultrasonic sound waves (20-120 kilohertz) which create microscopic bubbles that grow and implode. Materials adhering to the denture are loosened and removed by this action. Denture Square has one of these in our onsite dental laboratory.
